We’re not surprised to find that mineral makeup is becoming more and more sought after. Why? Because it’s a total game-changer. Makeup that’s actually good for your skin, who doesn’t want that?
If you’re new to the mineral makeup game and wondering what all the fuss is about, don’t worry. We’ve got you covered—and so does mineral foundation. Cool_Beige
  • When you remove your makeup your skin is red and a little irritated.
  • Your foundation is making your skin break out, or you have breakouts but are yet to find the underlying cause.
  • You want full coverage, but it tends to end up looking cakey.
  • You’ve got your skincare routine down to a fine art, but you’re yet to consider how much your makeupcould be affecting your skin. Guilty as charged!

Texture on your skin is totally normal. However, switching to a mineral foundation is a no-brainer if you struggle with enlarged open pores and excess oil. Mineral makeup will give you a radiant finish without clogging your pores.

Preservatives? Nope.
Parabens? Don’t know her.
Fragrance? That’s so last year.
Talc? I’m insulted you asked.
Mineral oil? More like mineral spoil.
Okay, that last one was a bit cringe, BUT the point is mineral makeup is free from all the nasties that can cause breakouts, redness and inflammation. It allows your skin to breathe, so you can cover existing breakouts without worrying about doing more damage or prolonging the healing process. If you’re blemish-prone, mineral makeup could be your key to clear skin.

Are you a true sensitive skin type?
Maybe your skin is temporarily sensitised?
If the answer is option b, I’m going to go ahead and tell myself your skin is a little sensitised because you just had skin needling (yes queenie!), not because you’re still washing your face with a bar of soap (I’m not mad, just disappointed).
No matter the cause of your sensitivety, mineral makeup is your new go-to.
Not only will mineral makeup effortlessly cover your redness, but you can also apply it confidently, knowing it’s good for your skin!

BRIGHTEN UP! BEST PRODUCTS & ROUTINE FOR HYPERPIGMENTATION
Hyperpigmentation

A light dusting of freckles might not worry you, but melasma or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is a different story. If you’re finding yourself slathering on cover-up in an effort to disguise stubborn dark patches of skin, AKA hyperpigmentation, this skincare routine is for you.
Excess pigmentation is the result of the way your body produces melanin, the thing that gives your skin its colour. Several things can cause your body to ramp up melanin production, including hormones or sun exposure. And it can be challenging to get rid of. You need the best products for hyperpigmentation so you can fade your spots and reveal your naturally radiant skin.
We’ve got you covered with a step-by-step daily skincare routine for pigmented skin at the end of this blog.

Hyperpigmentation is a stubborn skin condition that can require a multi-action skincare regime. These active ingredients in your hyperpigmentation serums and creams tackle pigmentation in a few different ways.

Tyrosinase Inhibitors Active Ingredients
  •  Tyrosinase Inhibitors Vitamin A & C
  • Tyrosinase Inhibitors break the body’s natural melanin production cycle. A concentrated area of melanin is pigmentation, so if your body creates less melanin, it follows you should have less pigmentation.
Niacinamide Active Ingredients
  • Niacinamide (vitamin b3)
  • Niacinamide doesn’t stop the production of melanin, but it does reduce the amount that’s transferred between cells in a process called “melanosome transfer”. Inhibiting this process has shown to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation.
Alpha-Hydroxy Acids Active Ingredient
  • Alpha-hydroxy Acids (AHAs) The faster your skin sheds cells, and creates new ones, the quicker you’ll be rid of dark spots. We’re not talking about vigorous scrubbing—step away from the loofah. Instead, opt for products that act as a gentle chemical exfoliant.
  • Niacinamide doesn’t stop the production of melanin, but it does reduce the amount that’s transferred between cells in a process called “melanosome transfer”. Inhibiting this process has shown to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation.

Understanding Acne

3 TRIGGERS OF ACNE

  1. Thickened sebum production
  2. Retention hypekeratosis (clogging, congestion)
  3. Bacterial proliferation

3 IMPORTANT STEPS TO TAKE TO CORRECT ACNE

  1. Lifestyle changes and intervention
  2. Commitment to professional skincare for homecare use
  3. Commitment to procedures performed by therapist

Advertisements such as social media, magazines, TV for acne products suggest that sebum is bad. It’s certainly NOT TRUE. We need sebum to protect, nourish and to reinforce barrier function.

These messages installed in teenage minds creates bad practice by over stripping their skin with highly aggressive foam cleansers and astringent agents such as alcohol and methylated spirits, over-applying detoxifying masks, clays etc and falling into this trap that sebum is bad and must be removed.

“THIS IS NOT THE PROBLEM”.

It’s the thickness and quality and conversion of the sebum, creates acne phenomenon and separates it from standard sebum production.

TEENAGES = Puberty/Hormones

When our pituitary glands messages to our adrenal glands it produces male hormone production called ANDROGEN During puberty 2 KEY hormones TESTOSTERONE and 5 ANDOSTENE DIOL 317 are released. These glands dictate the amount of sebum potent and size of our sebaceous glands.

Genetic Pre-Disposition

Small amount of TESTOSTERONE & 5 ANDOSTENE DIOL 317 (watery texture which evaporates quickly) = dry skin.

Large amounts of TESTOSTERONE a& 5 ANDOSTENE DIOL 317 ( olive oil texture) = oily skin.

This does not make you acnetic. It’s when you over develop sebum, thickening of the sebaceous gland and it turns into room temperature butter. It’s a challenge for this type of sebum to reach the surface of our skin to protect and reinforce barrier function. This is an imbalance and a key acne trigger, clogging and congestion. In our skin, we have growth factors, enzymes, proteins etc that help our skin exfoliate naturally. So when we over strip using clay masks, astringents to dry out our pimples we dry out our skin causing DEHYDRATION (water loss) = break down exfoliation enzymes and proteins that naturally exfoliates our skin. NO GOOD. We need hydration (water) to exfoliate. A build-up of makeup, debris, cellular rubbish sticks to the thicker sebum in the follicle. Collection of sebum and cellular rubbish closes up the mouth of the follicle and no oxygen to penetrate eventually create infection, bacteria, causing acne. This contributes into an inflammation lesion, redness, soreness, discomfort, pressure.

Papules turns into nodules, pustules turn into cysts.

If this is you or someone you know and you’ve had enough of using every acne product out there to no avail and are committed to the 3 steps to improve your skin then book in for a skin consultation with Roslyn. DOUBLE CLEANSING… WHO? WHEN? WHY? WHAT? HOW?

Now some may disagree, however it is my belief that a double cleanse is only necessary at night – if you have time for a double cleanse in the morning, go for gold! During the day, our skin gets layered with SPF, make-up and excess oil often finds a nice little home on our skin. We are in and out of air-conditioning & heating, sweating, in the wind, in the sun & touching our face. In other words, our skin gets put through a lot during the day, and this is where our double cleanse comes in to save the day!

Your first cleanse is going to remove excess oils, SPF and break down any make-up. And that’s what we expect from a cleanser & cleansers do much more than that, your cleanser should also be addressing your specific skin type and skin concerns, balancing the PH of your skin and leaving your skin hydrated, soft and bright. Now even a magical cleanser can’t do all of this on the first cleanse, so this is where our second cleanse comes in.

When using a great cleanser… Insert INDIRA Organics Cream Cleanser, you can expect great things from your second cleanse. This cleanser contains Australian Rosella, a resilient flower which has high concentrations of antioxidants assisting in revitalizing tired and dehydrated skin. Australian Sandalwood has emollient properties that help hydrate skin by providing a barrier between the skin and environmental aggressors. Sweet Almond Oil bathes the skin in antioxidants, keeping the skin moisturised and nourished. Horsetail helps tighten, firm and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

So why not a double cleanse in the morning? Well mainly time, we are all little busy bee’s these days and most of us are guilty of hitting snooze a couple of times in the am. But that’s not all. After doing our double cleanse at night and massaging in our night oil… insert Age Defying Oil or Repair Oil we head off to bed on our clean pillowcase. So in the morning our cleanser isn’t dealing with make-up, SPF and can therefore get a lot more done in just one cleanse.

So in conclusion:

  • Who? You, silly!
  • When? Always at night, in the morning if you can manage it.
  • Why? Well, we kind of just went over that.
  • What? INDIRA Organics Cream Cleaner.
  • How? Cleanser, hands, massage then rinse.

PS. We do have 2 other INDIRA Organic cleansers so check them out on my shop

How to manage Rosacea: 6 Simple Skin Cooling Tips
Rosacea

Rosacea is a common skin condition that causes red, hot and sometimes itchy blushing or flushing of the face. If you suffer from severe Rosacea, then no introduction is needed, the condition can be painful and difficult to deal with. However, Rosacea can also be mild, showing up as just odd little bumps here and there, or a rosier than usual complexion every time you eat your favourite Indian curry.
Often mistaken for acne due to the development of small, fluid-filled pustules and papules, the signs and symptoms of Rosacea can flare up for weeks to months at a time before disappearing for a while. Although the causes remain unknown, Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that can affect anyone. However, individuals with fair skin are more prone and although the condition develops more severely in men, it is more frequently diagnosed in women.
Unfortunately, there is no cure for Rosacea just yet, but there are some simple things you can do to help control and reduce the signs and symptoms.

Persistent Redness is the most common individual sign of rosacea and may resemble a blush or sunburned appearance that does not go away.
Skin Thickening caused by Rosacea is most commonly seen to develop on the nose and is known as Rhinophyma. It’s a less common symptom of Rosacea but can lead to facial disfigurement and inadequate nasal airflow when severe.
Flushing and facial redness can be accompanied by a sense of heat, warmth or burning that comes and goes and is often an early sign of Rosacea.
Bumps & Pimples that resemble acne can often develop.
Visible Blood Vessels called telangiectasia develop on the cheeks, nasal bridge and other areas in the centre of the face.
Eye Irritation can develop and appear as irritated, watery or bloodshot eyes. The eyelids can also become red and swollen, with blood vessels around the eyelid margins becoming noticeable.
Burning or stinging with or without a feeling of skin tightness may develop.
Facial swelling may accompany other signs of Rosacea or develop as raised red patches on areas of the face.
Dryness and rough, scaly skin may develop, particularly in the central area of the face, although the skin may still feel oily for some.

Although there is a range of oral and topical medications a doctor can prescribe to treat the various signs and symptoms of Rosacea; using a good Rosacea skincare plan plays an important role in keeping the condition and its symptoms under control. Here are 6 simple skin cooling tips to help manage Rosacea:

Tip #1 – Learn What Triggers Your Rosacea

Rosacea can be triggered by common, everyday things such as spicy foods, caffeinated drinks and even sunlight and stress. However these triggers vary greatly from one person to another. Learning what triggers an individual’s Rosacea and avoiding or reducing exposure to these triggers will help to reduce flare-ups.

Tip #2 – Be Gentle With Your Skin

A skin that is suffering from Rosacea is already hypersensitive therefore it’s important to avoid rubbing, scrubbing or exfoliating your skin. Swap out using washcloths, facial sponges or cleansing cloths and instead, simply wash your face morning and night by gently and slowly massaging your skin with your fingertips and a gentle, creamy cleanser, then rinsing with slightly cool water. Try our INDIRA Organics Cream Cleanser with nourishing and healing ingredients this lightweight yet luxuriously creamy cleanser removes makeup and environmental pollutants as it hydrates the skin, leaving it feeling calm, beautifully clean and noticeably soft.

    Tip #3 – Avoid Overheating

Rosacea can often be triggered by overheating your body and your skin. Controlling your body temperature by avoiding excessive exposure to heaters, fireplaces, hot and steamy showers as well as high-intensity activities will help to keep any flare-ups at bay. Besides keeping your body cool with a fan or exercising in air-conditioning or shaded areas, you can give your skin a cooling head-start by ensuring that it’s loaded with hydrating, hyaluronic acid. Holding 1000 times its weight in water, our INDIRA Organics Hydrating Serum dives deep into the skin to keep moisture locked in at a cellular level. A potent organic serum loaded with pure hyaluronic acid and restorative vitamin C, it will not only keep your skin cool and hydrated but will also stimulate collagen production to strengthen your skin’s natural defence barrier, reducing topical hypersensitivity and redness.

    Tip #4 – Moisturise Often

No matter if your Rosacea makes your skin feel dry or oily, it’s important to use a moisturiser. Using a Rosacea friendly moisturiser morning and a night oil in the evening will help to protect your skin by trapping in precious skin-cooling moisture and hydration while keeping out irritating nasties such as dust and pollution. Not only that but using a moisturiser such as the Revitalising Moisturiser with the added benefits of Green Tea and Australian Kakadu Plum that delivers superior hydration to calm, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can fight pimple-causing bacteria.

Tip #5 – Protect Your Skin From The Elements

Besides ensuring your skin is protected from the ultraviolet rays of the sun, taking extra steps to protect your skin (especially if you are also taking any medication for your skin) is paramount. Always wear a hat and avoid the midday sun. Sit in the shade, go for a walk early in the morning or in the cool of the evening. And if the weather is cold or windy, be sure to also wear a scarf to protect your skin from the elements. Our AVOCADO ZINC SPF 50+ is a high broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protector which is water-resistant up to 4 hrs, organic, non toxic, will not irritate. Comes in tinted or non-tinted.

    Tip #6 – Choose Mineral-Based, Fragrance-Free Makeup

It’s understandable that if you suffer from Rosacea’s red and ruddy appearance that you would want to cover it up but the ingredients in many foundations and concealers can also make Rosacea worse. Made with minerals such as zinc oxide and titanium oxide, opting to use mineral-based make-up will not only give you natural protection from the sun, but thanks to its healing properties, mineral makeup will also be less likely to irritate the skin and cause a Rosacea flare-up. Choosing a loose mineral foundation in preference to a liquid mineral foundation will also prevent your skin’s pores from clogging, and you can conveniently mix a little of your loose mineral powder with your moisturiser to make your own bespoke BB cream for a light and dewy coverage. Try our Mineral Radiance Loose Mineral Foundation SPF15+. Free of oils, parabens, talc and fragrance, our cruelty-free formula is available in 5 skin-loving shades and comes in a creamy option for those who prefer a full-coverage finish.

What is SPF & Why it’s important

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. As the name suggests, the SPF lets you know how long it will take for the skin to burn when exposed to the sun. This is relative to your unprotected skin. Let’s look at an example …
How long does SPF 30 last? If your skin burns after 10 to 20 minutes of sun exposure, applying SPF 30 will protect you for 30 times longer – around 5 to 10 hours.
The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends the use of a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 for everyday activities and 30 or higher for outdoor activities or when the sun is strongest.

“Regular daily use of SPF 15 sunscreen can reduce your risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) by about 40 percent, and lower your melanoma risk by 50 percent.”
    The Skin Cancer Foundation

While you probably don’t need an added incentive, blocking the harmful rays of the sun also keeps your skin looking younger for longer. Many of the changes in your skin associated with ageing are actually due to prolonged exposure to the sun. Protecting your skin from UV rays from a young age can help ward off the appearance of lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, broken capillaries or red blotches.

Furthermore, some common anti-ageing ingredients in skincare, as well as some medications, increase photosensitivity. That means your skin’s defences against UV rays are lowered. If you don’t want wrinkles, and you certainly don’t want skin cancer, the correct application of a product with safe SPF levels is an absolute must in your daily skincare routine.

Sunscreen Sunburn

Myth: I can just apply SPF 50+ once a day

Fact: Many people are under the false belief that a higher SPF, such as 50, is a safer choice. SPF isn’t linear in its level of protection, with SPF 50+ only offering a marginally better level of protection than SPF 30.

SPF 50+ filters out 98% of UVB radiation
SPF 30 filters out 96.7% of UVB radiation

No matter what level of SPF you choose, correct application is essential. Any sunscreen product needs to be applied 15-20 minutes prior to going out in the sun and re-applied every couple of hours, particularly after sweating from heat exposure or exercise, or water activities.

UV Rays Ageing Wrinkles

Myth: You only need to worry about UVB rays

Fact: While UVB rays are responsible for producing sunburn, UVA rays penetrate more deeply into the skin and play a greater role in skin ageing and wrinkle formation. They are also proven to contribute to sunburn and cancer. Developed in Japan, the Protection Grade of UVA (PA) system is meant to inform users of the level of protection from UVA rays.

    PA+ provides some protection
    PA++ provides moderate protection
PA+++ offers the best protection of the three

Safe SPF Application

Now to the question at hand: how to apply sunscreen for maximum protection.

You need to apply a liberal amount of sunscreen 15-20 minutes before sun exposure. Applying it before you get dressed means that if you take off a top or your singlet strap slips, you’ll still be protected. As a bonus, this helps ward off any unsightly tan lines.

Then remember that you need to re-apply your sunscreen every couple of hours. You should also re-apply after swimming or drying off with a towel. Don’t miss those easy-to-forget places like behind your ears, the backs of your knees and the tops of your feet.

Sunscreen can offer great protection for everyone, with many different options now available for sensitive skin (keep reading to find out the incredible product that’s suitable for all skin types and concerns, even sensitive). But do consult your doctor before using on an infant under 6 months old.

Stay Sun Safe

The bottom line: SPF 30 or 50 sunscreen is great, but there are other things you can do to help keep your skin safe from the sun. Between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm, the UV rays tend to be highest, so stay out of the sun and avoid prolonged exposure generally. Give your skin the best level of protection with suitable clothing, including:

  • Long-sleeved shirt Wide-brimmed hats
  • UV-rated sun umbrellas
  • Sunglasses
  • Use More Than You Think
  • Sunscreen Amount Safe SPF

Failing to apply enough sunscreen could be doing your skin damage. It’s estimated that most people apply less than half of the required amount. You’ll need to apply about an ounce to your entire body to get full protection. Not sure what an ounce is? It’s about the same as a shot glass

Finding The Best Sunscreen

Because sunscreen is something you apply every day, there are other factors to consider (beyond UV protection) to find the best sunscreen for you. Finding “the one” stops it from being a chore you’re likely to skip and helps make applying sunscreen a no-brainer part of your daily routine. Are these factors on your sunscreen wish list?
  • Doesn’t irritate your skin or cause breakouts
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Non-chemical
  • Water-resistant
  • Soothes and Protects
  • Doesn’t make you look like you’re wearing white clown make-up when heading out
  • Safe for breastfeeding, pregnancy and infants
